Holiday Wish Lists & Donation Requests

After the 12/18/20 zoom holiday celebration co-sponsored by DPBC, the New Mexico Black Caucus and Adelante Progressive Caucus, attendees compiled a list of charities they support and asked that the list be sent through the newsletter to encourage all of us to give a little more during the holidays:

APS, Adopt a Family: Contact the Family Liaison for the Albuquerque Public School you are interested in supporting. They will be able to tell you how many families at their school need help with gifts for the holidays. Contact Shannon at: trujillo_shan@aps.edu

Albuquerque Rescue Mission: Needs canned goods, knit hats, gloves, scarves, socks, underwear, t-shirts, jackets, blankets and new, unopened toiletries. Both Locations on   525 2nd St SW or 2021 2nd St NW 505-346-4673 

All Faiths Children’s Advocacy Center: Gift Cards to Wal-Mart, gift cards to a grocery store. The gift cards can be mailed to 1709 Moon, NE, ABQ, NM, 87112. Barrett Foundation: Currently Barrett House is seeking donations for cleaning supplies, food, and products, i.e., paper plates, paper towels, paper bowls, napkins and silverware, plasticware etc. You can also donate on its website. Crossroads for Women: Needs nonperishable food items (peanut butter, pasta, soup, canned vegetables, instant potatoes, cereal, dried fruit), cleaning supplies and new, unopened toiletries (shampoo, toothpaste, laundry detergent, dish soap and toilet paper). Heading Home, Sponsor a Family: You will be matched with a family in need that is newly housed in their home for the holidays. Donations needed: men’s, women’s and children’s socks, pajamas, men’s underwear, toiletries and gift cards. (Contact HH at 505-226-1700 ext 204). https://headinghome.org

PB&J Family Services: Holiday gifts needed: gift certificates, toys, educational books, clothing, blankets, bath towels, pots and pans, food, baby needs, volunteer time per COVID-19 practices, monetary donations. You can take your donations to the Main Site, which is located on 1101 Lopez Rd, SW, ABQ, NM, 87105. Project Connect: This year Elisabeth Lucero-Serna, Counselor at APS, started a fundraiser called Project Connect to help students and their families with internet connection. Needed are donations of $10 a month for internet for APS Students in need or $50 to cover 5 months through the end of the school year. Hopeworks: Volunteer opportunities (day before and after holiday help). Also needs toys to give as gifts to homeless children. (Contact main line for questions, 505-242-4399). https://hopeworksnm.org

New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services: Requesting help with Operation Cheer. Participants send out Holiday Cheer by mailing cards to residents and staff of the New Mexico State Veterans Home. Cards can be sent to: The New Mexico State Veterans Home/ Attn: Operation Holiday Cheer/ 992 South Broadway/ Truth or Consequences, NM 87901.

Valencia Shelter for Domestic Violence: Needs food donations (canned good, grocery store gift cards), hats, gloves, gift cards (Wal-Mart, Target, etc.) to give to families for the holidays. These goods can be dropped off at 445 Camino Del Rey, Ste. E, Los Lunas, NM, 87031. The shelter has also established a wishlist for gifts on Amazon.com.  Purchases will be sent to Valencia Shelter for distribution to families.
