Advancing Sensible Firearm Safety in New Mexico

New Mexico has passed several bills advancing firearm safety: background checks bills, an Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPO)/red flag law, and a seven day waiting period law. Last session a policy that is a basic Democratic platform tenet–semiautomatic firearm and high-capacity magazine restrictions–failed despite a Democratic trifecta lasting eight years. This article provides context for conversations with your legislators to explain why they should support the policy, discuss potential barriers, and offer support for advancing it.
