Good afternoon, Bernalillo County Democrats,
Today is April 1st, and no joke is more in the forefront of my mind than the Presidential administration. Except it’s not at all funny. It’s treasonous and it’s vile.
This is the time to put energy into action, and I’d like to congratulate those of you who have done just that by participating in the County Central Committee elections! That was followed by an energetic and engaging CCC Convention this past Saturday. Thanks to everyone who attended!
Overall, there were 648 voters in the election process, several of whom are new names, which should indicate to you that the Democratic community in Bernalillo County is interested and passionate about the future.
Through a combination of elections and appointments, we have now placed 519 County Central Committee members, which includes Ward Chairs and Precinct Chairs. There is still room to grow, room to be involved. The appointment period will re-open after the SCC election ends. So, if you’re ready to get involved, now is the time to reach out!
We are now in the middle of elections for Bernalillo County Chair, Vice Chair, and State Central Committee elections. There are 213 candidates for the CD1 portion of our county, and 60 candidates for the CD2 portion. Redistricting put a portion of CD2 into Bernalillo County, so we’ll have a full SCC in that area for the first time, which is something we should be proud of!
Today marks what will be my last Blue Review article as your County Party Chair. I wish to leave you with a few important thoughts. It’s time to:
- Fight against fascism at every turn.
- Protest, yes, but also help build your local party infrastructure. (That means gear up for non-glorious work, too.)
- Organize in every corner, mountain, and wide-open expanse in the county.
- Take up space and have a commanding presence, but do not burn down buildings.
- Stand firm and speak your truth, but do not abuse.
- Take care of your own mental health so you have the energy to forge ahead, because we’ve just seen the beginning of what’s coming.
Most important, folks: Do not let your passion kill your humanity, because the saving and betterment of humanity IS the goal.
With much gratitude for each and every one of you,
Marisol Enriquez, Chair
