by Paul Timpane, Treasurer, DPBC
Paul Timpane has announced that he will not continue as Democratic Party of Bernalillo County Treasurer after his term ends March 31st, and that the DPBC is seeking a replacement. He released the following statement:
“When I became Treasurer in 2021, my primary objectives were the accuracy, transparency, and timeliness of all financial reporting, enhancement of the Ward Grant Program, and improvement of the financial position of DPBC. I am confident that all those objectives have been achieved.
“Over the last four years I had the pleasure of working with so many dedicated Democrats who have devoted their time and energy to getting Democratic candidates elected across the board in New Mexico and in Bernalillo County. This includes our Ward and Precinct Chairs, CCC and SCC Members, the Finance Committee, DPBC Officers and Advisory Board, and two outstanding DPBC Chairs — Flora Lucero and Marisol Enriquez.
“Most recently, my focus has been on working with the DPBC Chair to identify a candidate for the Treasurer role. I am also working on a detailed manual which outlines the weekly, monthly, periodic, and annual responsibilities of this position. Also, I believe that the State Party Treasurer will conduct a training session for all treasurers shortly after the upcoming County and State Party elections. My plan is to continue to be involved with Ward 20B and at county and state levels. I will also work with the incoming Treasurer to ensure a smooth transition.
“One question that I have been asked is to quantify the amount of time I have devoted to the role. A typical week is about 10 hours, which includes two one-hour meetings. A few more hours are required at the end of the month to complete the bank reconciliation, prepare the Treasurer’s Report, and attend the monthly Executive Committee meeting. Also, there is a requirement to submit a Campaign Finance Report to the New Mexico Secretary of State Office on scheduled dates. That generally takes 6 to 8 hours. This year, only two are required, in April and October.“
