ACA Data Reveals a Huge Win for NM Families

Thank you for everything you have been doing. Since we started building this movement last year, there has not been a dull week. There is always work to do—whether pushing back against the chaos in Washington or fighting for our communities here in Bernalillo County.

Today is National Tell the Truth Day, and here is a truth you need to hear:

Your work matters. The doors you have knocked, the neighbors you have chatted with, and the conversations you have had actually change lives.

What do I mean?

New federal data on Affordable Care Act enrollment just dropped, and it is stark. After the enhanced subsidies expired on January 1, ACA enrollment across the country fell by 2.6 million people. In many states, enrollment dropped 25 to 32 percent as families faced premiums that doubled or tripled. Working people are losing coverage across America and its all Republican’s fault.

But New Mexico? We wouldn’t allow that to happen. Our leaders stood in front of the Republican attack and made sure we were all protected. New Mexico was the exception across the entire Nation. We are the only state where ACA, enrollment increased—by 14 percent. New Mexico Democrats created a state healthcare affordability fund to keep subsidies in place and shield families from medical debt. While coverage collapsed elsewhere, here we expanded access.

This did not happen by accident. It happened because of the grassroots organizing we have built together. Your door-knocking, your conversations, and your commitment to electing leaders who prioritize working families made this possible. That is why your work matters. When so many states are seeing families lose health insurance, New Mexico is protecting care. That is the difference strong local Democratic organizing delivers.

So keep showing up. Keep knocking those doors. Keep having those conversations. Because when we organize, we protect our communities and deliver real results. Your neighbors have healthcare this year because you elected Democrats. That is not an exaggeration. Own it!
