Craftivism Night
October Craftivism with Artist Lisa Casaus! We will make felt canaries for a collaborative art project.
The canaries represent us humans, especially minorities who are being forced to “sense the air” in myriad coal mines around us, and that air is toxic. The coal mines can be any social, political and environmental system in place that is killing humans without a second thought, even though the warnings are piling up around us. The canaries will be collected to build an art installation, a community art piece that promotes awareness of the aforementioned socio-political and environmental issues. Each maker gets to decide which coal mine their canary was sacrificed to. The project aims to build community by encouraging people to gather together to learn or share making and mending skills. It is also a way to process and express our collective grief through absurdity.
