Join the fight! Fortify New Mexico against fascism. Become an empowered Democratic resource in your neighborhood! Sign up to vote or also to run in party elections, occurring this March and April. Go to “Registration for Ward & Precinct Elections and Candidate Self-Nomination“ to get started!
We issued the official call to the Democratic Party of Bernalillo County elections to County Central Committee members on February 3. This follows the required call to the general public issued by the Democratic Party of New Mexico in January.
A robust and full county Democratic party means a robust democracy in Bernalillo County. It is up to grassroots organizers to help fortify our county and our state against the threats of the MAGA movement. You play an integral role in ensuring:
- that democracy is strong,
- that the needs of the people for a functioning government are met, and
- that our party grows and continues to fight for the people.
We encourage you to consider running for a position, even if you’ve never held one before, and even if you are new to local party politics. New perspectives help our party thrive. We have an energetic and supportive team to help you succeed!
Criteria
You must be a registered Democrat in Bernalillo County as of February 7, 2025 and must not have previously been removed from an elected office within the Democratic Party of New Mexico.
Election Details
In the spring of each odd numbered year, we elect county party officials to two-year terms. This happens in a round of two elections. And they are coming up fast!
The first election includes electing the following county level positions:
- County Central Committee, which includes:
- Ward Chair
- Precinct Chair
- Additional CCC members allocated to the Ward
- Ward Vice Chair
- Ward Secretary
- Rules Committee member
- Resolutions Committee member
The second election includes electing the following:
- County Party Officers
- State Central Committee
Weekends in February and the first weekend in March, we’ll host Ward Meetings where you can meet fellow Democrats and introduce yourself as a candidate for any of the positions above!
To find your ward meeting, follow these simple steps:
- Find Your Voter ID (optional)* and Voting Precinct Number: Access your voter registration on the NM Secretary of State’s Voter Registration Information page and write down your voter ID* and voting precinct number.
- Register to Vote (and, if you want to run for party office, Self-Nominate): Go to the “Registration for Ward & Precinct Elections and Candidate Self-Nomination” page.
- Find Your Ward Number: Go to our Ward and Precinct Resources page. In the search box, type in your precinct number and hit enter. This will display your Ward number.
- Find Your Ward Meeting: Go to our Events Calendar, where the scheduled Ward Meetings are coded in blue.
- Show up!: If you have followed the first three steps, you know what ward you are in, and when and where your ward will meet. Show up and meet fellow Dems who are fired up and ready to fight fascism, too!
* You will need your voter ID to vote or to self-nominate (run) for party office. But, if you choose to do neither of these, you may still attend your ward meeting.
