We had a great time Wednesday night!

Special thanks to Mayor Tim Keller for updating us on important news from the City and fielding questions from the audience. The City of Albuquerque Civic Engagement Department was also on hand to give out information on their initiatives. Bernalillo County Treasurer, Nancy Bearce, explained how the Nov. 5 election impacts property tax notices and due dates. We learned about the good work being done by Westside Democrats, Eastside Democrats, and some awesome Ward Chairs. A representative from West Mesa High School collected toiletries for their Family Resource Center and gave us insight into the Title One program for homeless students. A Democracy Dollars representative answered questions about Proposition 2 and our dear Mandy Pino offered information on Medicare for All. There was food, voter registration, and music provided by the New Mexico Musicians Coalition. And of course, the ever-diligent Pete Zollinger gathered signatures and collected donations for candidates running on public financing. It was definitely a fun and informative event!

MANY thanks to Diane Gutterud for giving hours of time and effort to make sure all bases were covered. Thanks also go out to Merna Brostoff, Liam Paul, Samuel Nevarez, Paul Szauter, Sue Wolinsky, and Pete Beletto.

Next month, we are planning a Thankful Thursday event. We are thankful that we can engage in our state legislative process, not only by electing legislators who represent our values, but also by attending interim committee meetings and committee hearings where we can express our views on specific proposed legislation. So stay tuned for details on our November program, Thankful Thursday: a Focus on State Legislative Committees.

Yours in service,
Flora Lucero, Chair
Democratic Party of Bernalillo County
