What we stand for is so much stronger than what we stand against. On Monday, September 16, 2019, our communities rallied to demonstrate our strength. We showed up in large numbers to stand in unity. That stance resonates with the things that make us great: diversity and peace. We have not finished demonstrating. We have only just begun.
With all the agitation and vile behavior #45 elicits, we answer with demonstrating our belief in the good of humanity. We answer with demonstrating that our belief in democracy is stronger than anyone’s belief in its demise. We come together, not to sing the same song, but to unite in knowing that every song has a space to be sung; we respect one another’s space and we honor one another’s song.
And now our work continues. We dig deeper, we march further, and we reach more wholeheartedly into our communities to draw people from every walk of life into the electorate. Our work seeks to have our body of voters reflect the body of our residents. And in turn, the body of our government mirrors the people it represents. We, the people, are indeed a beautiful sight to behold. And when our government reflects its people, we will have achieved a more perfect Union.
